Hyperborea

Overview

From the empty space, a world is generated, contained within the space of an old scroll. A goddess rules it: she is both good and evil. Beauty and violence intertwine within this microcosm, in a way that makes them almost indistinguishable between one another, until everything ends, in an infinite loop, parading into a "Hellmouth" where we are not allowed to follow. Made of more than 1000 drawings on paper, hand drawn and hand colored with a straight ahead technique, in order to enhance its surreal quality, the animation references both folk-medieval and contemporary art. By playing with the space of the paper, intertwining empty and ultra-crowded sequences, the scenes overwhelm the viewer, who is challenged to pick a character as their guide inside this chaotic world, where there is no truth: only what one chooses to see and what chooses to ignore.
