Overview
In Bucaramanga, the Colombian film archive “Fundación Cineteca Pública” preserves stories and history. However, the NGO’s areas of focus are even more multifaceted. Here, film becomes a tool in the fight for social justice. Who is the author of their own stories? Who gets the opportunity to make films and portray their lived reality, ideas, dreams, and so on? Why is it important to restore films, make them accessible to an audience, and thereby foster collective memory? Cuadro a Cuadro is a film about the passion for the moving image and about the empowerment that can lie in the struggle for interpretive authority over the medium of cinema. Lizbeth Torres Acosta, the director and founder of the NGO, and William Jones, another co-founder, introduce us to the working atmosphere at the “Fundación Cineteca Pública.”
