Born Jacqueline in rural Switzerland to a conservative, deeply Catholic family, Jake’s life began after a brief encounter between his teenage mother and an anonymous African American man in New York. Adopted at birth, Jake experienced intense dissonance from the age of eight, realizing he was born in the wrong body. By age eleven, he rejected his female identity to begin a transition marked by family conflicts and deep internal struggles. Filmed over more than twenty years by Francisco Paco Carrascosa, this profound quest for identity captures a pivotal trip to New York.
