In feudal Japan, Hyouta used to be a traveling acrobat. He meets Ushiwakamaru, an ill boy of royalty who is being held captive by the lord of that land. As they look exactly alike, Hyouta agrees to swap places, but when Ushiwakamaru dies of his illness, Hyouta agrees to carry on his dream and stay in his position. Years later, Hyouta has become Minamotono Yoshitsune and with his advisors, Musashibou Benkei and Isesaburou Yoshimori, he brings peace to his lands by solving crimes and problems. It is now an established historical fact that towards the end of World War II, the Nazis were in fact developing bizarre new weapons one after another, such as the V-2 rocket weapon, a mega tank called the "Maus," etc. There were even plans for a weapon-like rocket fighter, which Japan, under military alliance with Germany, tried to complete using German research. (The project was never commercialized). These events inspired Tezuka Osamu to craft the story of a fictitious secret weapon, Big X, which he portrays as jointly developed by Japan and Germany. "Big X" was also produced for television in cartoon form, and both the Manga and made-for-TV animation versions became huge hits. Tezuka Osamu, however, was not too attached to his character Akira Asagumo, who came to represent an overly righteous hero trumpeting justice. Despite such sentiment on the part of the author, the work became a leading satirical Manga, realistically depicting the terror of the war. This is a very interesting manga. The background of the story is Ming Dynasty, China. The main character of the story is an outgoing teenage girl named Ning Hai (Hai means ocean). She grew up in a family of pirates... She's the daughter of the head pirate. One day, Hai lead a group of pirates to rob a Spanish ambassador ship while her father was away. Then she met an English man, Michael, who was traveling with the Spaniards. Michael gladly traded the whole ship of treasures for a map of China. Later, a friend of Hai was caught by the new police inspector Shao ZhiSiün. Hai snuck out to save her friend... but got caught also. Meanwhile, she met Michael again. When Hai's father heard that his daughter was being held in custody by the new police inspector, he tried to bribe the new guy, but failed. The new police inspector was not to be bought. So Hai's father bluffed and said he didn't care what would happen to the two (his daughter and the other young pirate). He thought his daughter should be able to get herself out of the mess. Michael helped Hai conceal her true identity so that Shao believed that Hai and her friend are just innocent civilians who were forced to join the pirates and arranged for them to work in his house... An all-watercolor manga based on Tigers In The Mud, the memoirs of Otto Carius, a German tank commander. Tiger Ace Otto Carius destroyed more than 150 tanks during his WWII career. Carius originally joined the 20th Panzer Division in 1941, during the attack on Russia. In 1943 he transferred to the 502 Tiger battalion. This unit fought at Leningrad and then in the area of Narva, Estonia. Carius was wounded in the summer of 1944, subsequently becoming the commander of a Jagdtiger company in the West at the beginning of 1945. He surrendered to the Americans in May. Miyazaki's manga concerns the exploits of Carius in Estonia during his fight against the advancing Soviet army. All of the characters appear as pigs. This series has the subtitle "Mousou Nouto" ("Fantasy Note"—however, mousou can also mean "wild or crazy idea" or "delusion").
